Greetings!
Thank you for responding to the call of Pope Francis to make our Church a safer home, especially for minors and other vulnerable persons. While all Christians are called to “safeguard” their relationships so that others are drawn to Christ 1 , the Holy Father has decisively discerned that, “the primary responsibility lies with bishops, priests and religious, those who have received from the Lord the vocation to offer their lives to service, including the vigilant protection of all vulnerable children, young people and adults.” 2
This orientation workshop on safeguarding in the Church offers essential knowledge and learning processes which facilitate integration of the culture of relational safety and the work of safeguarding into one’s relationships and spirituality in the middle of the realities of daily life and ministry. Throughout the orientation, you will be invited to explore your relationships with yourself (safe self), with others (safe community), and your ministry (safe ministry) using a framework we call the “Tripod Model of Relational Safety,” in the context of your vocational relationship with God. More will be shared and explained about this model and its applications throughout the workshop.
May we respond generously to our Lord, who calls us to choose Him over ourselves in order care for most vulnerable among His people. 3
